Flat rack container
Flat rack container specifications: a floor and two end walls, for out-of-gauge and heavy lifts that no closed box can take.
A flat rack is a container floor with end walls and no sides or roof. Cargo is loaded from the side or above and lashed to rings along the floor; overheight cargo that still fits the box width goes in an open top instead. End walls are fixed or collapse flat so empties stack for return.
Ratings vary more than any other type because the floor and the corner castings are designed to the intended load. The 40′ figures below are the reference; a 20′ flat rack is typically rated to 34,000 kg gross with a payload near 31,000 kg.
Typical uses
- Out-of-gauge machinery and vehicles
- Industrial generators and transformers
- Boats and project cargo
